I’m sorry I didn’t post last night…stop freaking out for two minutes.

So yesterday was the first of the month…I ran through my entire list and knocked everything out that I was supposed to do. I went down to the good ole music shop and snagged a few books for the instrument I’m learning to play. I suppose I can share with you when instrument that is, since there is no reason to keep it a secret.

Back in 6th-8th grade, I played the trumpet. I decided I’d try to learn to play it again, so I went over to my parents house and snagged it off the wall in the basement. (Sorry mom, you’ll have to find something else to replace it in your ‘music’ theme down there). I bought a beginner’s guide/book on how to play the trumpet, because it’s been 16 years since I’ve played. I realized that I can still make it play a note, but that’s about it. I have no idea what song I’m going to attempt to play, but I know that it’s going to take me a while to re-learn everything about playing that damn thing. Back in the day, middle school Ben was actually 1st chair trumpet, believe it or not. I’m a loooooong way from that.

I spent 30 minutes jacking around with the trumpet and the beginner’s lesson book and everything, and I think it might take longer than 15 minutes a day to get decently good at the trumpet again, but I’m just going to try to stick to 15 minutes a day because I’ve got other things to do too.

Like playing basketball, juggling, watching what I eat blah blah blah. The bottom line is that I did everything I was supposed to do yesterday. Whew.

Now for some sadish news for me…I have to give up doing the vertical jump improving workouts. I struggled through some knee pain the first and second week, but after playing basketball last night it just shot through my kneecap like fire. So here’s what I’ve decided.

Fat guy + tons of jumping up and down = knee pain.

I need to lose a lot more weight before I try to do these exercises again.

So in leu liu luei instead of murdering my knees, I’m going to do a different leg workout that is less jarring. I’m putting that together today. I know I need to still work out the legs because let’s face facts:

The triathlon is in two days, does anyone know of a great workout that can take the place of 3 months of training for a triathlon? If so I’d be interested. I think this is how the race goes, but I’m not sure:

My good friend Deanna will be in town this weekend…we are probably going to spend the weekend painting our toenails and dishing about guys. #girltalk

I’ll post another entry tonight my children. For now, have a great day!

Doin’ it real big in August bro! Good luck at the “you’re only a 3rd as good of an athlete as Bruce Jenner” event this weekend

  2. I’m sorry to hear about your knee. I’m sure you’ll find a way to strengthen them bad boys right back up though!

If you have Netflix, (and if you don’t…WTH?) go watch Scrubs episode Season 5 Episode 3 My Day at the Races for triathlon inspiration! Then watch the rest of the season because 5 was gooood!

If you haven’t been training for the triathlon, I think the worst thing you could do is tire your muscles out trying to fit a bunch of stuff in the two days before. Most training plans require you to dramatically decrease your workouts in the days immediately before a race so that your muscles will be fresh and fast on race day, or at least functioning! If you’re nervous about the swim at all, it might be beneficial to jump in a pool today and do a few laps, but if it’s been a while since the last time you swam, keep it light because you’ll easily be sore the next day. So rest Friday, and race Saturday!

You're here...might as well say something...
